“Fear is like a paper cut on the finger tip, it itches, affects you if you try to ignore it.”
Dorry Hsu latest project starts from recording her fearful objects and situations in forty days.
Gills Deleuze “Francis Bacon :The Logic of Sensation” is her major reference to understand how to transform these abstract emotions, and situations into visual forms. Through the immediate response of virtual modeling tools of computer, Dorry creates three dimensional objects that reflect the unease and irritating sense of fear.
This project develops into three stages.
First stage reflects the subject of fears, and the object appears as “bug with many legs”.
The second stage is the “Childhood fear”. The pacifier symbolizes people’s fears are paradox caused from childhood. It symbolizes either the object vomiting from inside of the body or the artificial element is forced to stuff in an infant’s mouth.The final stage of this project is called “Eternity” using Dorry ‘s portrait as subject, and transform the computer form into marble which is a material widely used for death mask or stature. It is a stage questioning the fundamental fear of mankind, and opening up the discussion of the meaning of existence.
